Relection for October Month

On 29th October, 2021 I taught English lesson in class III. The topic of my lesson was “our Tree” (poem) by Marchette Chute. I introduced the lesson topic and made children aware of the lesson objectives. It was taught through reading aloud of the poem by the teacher from anthology of song and rhyme .  Before I started my lesson, I checked the prior knowledge of my students through asking questions.  First I used attention grabber (quiet signal) to gain children’s attention. Then I asked the questions one by one and made children to give the responses.

Examples:

1.     What do you see around our school campus? Expected answer: classroom, toilet, water  tap, trees, flowers etc.

2.     What things do you see that are green in colour? Trees.

So today we are going to learn about Our Tree by Marchette Chute. Introduce the topic to the students and then Read Aloud the poem to the students with correct pronunciation, fluency and rhythm. After the teacher’s read aloud then do shared reading of the poem with the students.

It was really interesting and fun learning for the children.

After that students were divided into teams and then made them to recite the poem followed by some other activities.

Children were very much excited to learn the ICT integrated activity which was really inspiring and motivating for me as well as for my children.

The children were taken to the ICT room to have hands on  activity i.e illustrating each stanza of the poem. Each team was given a stanza to illustrate it using ICT.

Through this lesson almost 90 percent of the children were motivated to learn and engage actively in their activities. It has been a great learning experience for all the children and was even inspired and motivated to have ICT hands on activity.

The overall lesson went quite well and I’m satisfied with my lesson. I was able to fulfill the objective of my lesson. So, as a teacher I believe that teaching is more fun when it is child centered. We need to motivate the learners by making the activities interesting. To have an effective teaching and learning we need to integrate ICT as strategies so that children will participate actively in the class.

ICT integrated reflection

On 24th September I taught the lesson on four types of sentences to class II children. My children were very much curious to learn about it when I did the set up of projector in the class before the start of the lesson. I could see children wearing smiles on their face. Before I started my lesson, I asked few questions to recapitulate the previous lesson. Then I said, "today we will watch a video lesson on four types of sentences.” Then I played the video clip through projector. I paused at certain interval and explained it to the students. Children were fully engrossed in hearing the explanation and the examples of each sentence. They have also learnt the different types of sentences. Children looked at the examples of each sentence carefully and they could identify them accordingly.

Teaching through ICT integration helps children to retain the memory power of what they have learned. They can also give their own examples for each type of sentence. Children could learn the correct spellings and pronunciation as well. I saw almost all the children were motivated to learn through ICT.

Generally, I felt that there is a vast difference with using ICT and without using ICT. When we use ICT even the low performers in the class shows interest to learn and can understand the concept clearly and understands the information. They actively participate in the group activities and discussion. If we don’t use ICT children feel monotonous in the class. Therefore, it is understood that ICT really helps children to learn more effectively and in a better way. Moreover, it makes the work of the teacher easy and helps in managing the class.

Reflection on the use of entire ICT integrated lesson.

On 30th August 2021 I taught English lesson in class III. The topic of my lesson was direct and indirect speech. I introduced the lesson topic and made children aware of the lesson objectives. It was taught through a video clip.  Before I started my lesson, I made my children to sit near the laptop where everybody could see the integrated ICT lesson.  First I used attention grabber (quiet signal) to gain children’s attention. Then I made the students to watch a video clip on Direct and Indirect speech from the laptop. Children were very much excited to learn what is being taught through this video lesson. Integrating ICT in planning a lesson and teaching in a real classroom was an inspiring and motivating for me as well as for my children.

Integrating ICT in lesson such as watching a video clip that explains direct and indirect speech was really interesting and fun learning for the children. Through this lesson almost 90 percent of the children were motivated to learn and engage actively in their activities. It has been a great learning experience for all the children and was even inspired and motivated to watch some more video clips in the days to come for better attainment.

From the video lesson, I could see my children actively engaged in differentiating direct and indirect speech and also the conversion of it. I also came to know that it is a way of teaching children to convert indirect into indirect speech and vice versa. Children were given worksheets to change the direct speech to indirect speech using round table. The students were able to do it with the help of their team mates and the teacher’s support.

Towards the end of the lesson almost all the children could learn the difference between direct and indirect speech correctly.

Ict integration

Reflection on the use of entire ICT integrated lesson.

Reflection is an analytical practice in which the writer describes his or her experiences, opinions and the new information that have been covered as per learners understanding. It gives the one who is writing the journal an opportunity to explore our own ideas into practice and what after the necessary inputs have to be made. Strategies implementation will definitely say how the learners are equip and do further practices.

It was on 25th June, 2021 I taught class-III students with an English lesson on the topic: Action Verbs. The skill focus area was on select, develop, organize and use appropriate teaching learning resources including ICT to address the learning goals. First the teacher introduced the lesson topic and the objectives to the students. Made children aware of the topic. Then the students were asked to watch a video clip on action verbs using projector  and provided additional information about it.  Then asked children to discuss and write down what’s their take away from the video clip. This made children more clear about the topic.

In the first activity, I have provided children with a sticky pad to construct a sentence using some action verbs. There was active participation with the help of teacher’s intervention.

In the second activity, teacher provided a worksheet to each pair of students and asked them to read the paragraph and circle the action verbs. The students were able to do it with the help of their partner and the teacher’s support.

Towards the end of the lesson again I have provided them with a sticky pad each to write down what they have learnt in this particular lesson.(One minute paper). It was really wonderful that each individual child was able to write an interesting point on it.

Conclusion:

The overall lesson went very well, but if I were to teach this lesson again I would make it more interesting through various activities and use ICT integrated in a more meaningful way.
